5 Sir Matt Busby = joint 5th

Matt Busby built up a great side out of a bomb wreck of a club. His great team were known as 'the Busby babes' winning the top flight titles in 1951-52, 55-56 and 56-57 and fielding players as young as 16 and 17, including one of the finest players of his generation, Duncan Edwards as well as legend Sir Bobby Charlton. This side were dominant in English football and were competing for the league championship, FA cup and European cup when tragedy struck. The Munich air crash of 1958 claimed the lives of 23 people, including Duncan Edwards. Busby survived and went on to rebuild the side around Bobby Charlton, bringing in Dennis Law and discovering George Best, widely regarded as one of the all-time great players. He won the FA cup in 1963, confirming their status as a top side and went on to win two further league championships and a famous European cup in 1968 before his retirement as manager. Busby gained enormous respect for his handling of the Munich disaster and his ability to rebuild a broken team and club into the best in England and Europe. He is Manchester United's second most successful manager and considered a legend at Old Trafford, being knighted for his services to football.
